Our Life
Out Here

Palmerston is a young city IN THE MIDST OF rapid growth and development.

Only 15 minutes from Darwin, Palmerston experiences the same warm weather all year round.

A tropical savannah climate, the Top End of the Northern Territory typically sits at 25-33°C all year round. Unlike the rest of Australia, which experiences four distinct seasons, Palmerston only has two: The Dry and The Wet.

The Dry

From May to October the humidity drops to a comfortable 60-65% and Palmerston experiences The Dry, aptly named due to the low rainfall. The Dry creates perfect conditions for outdoor living. The many families who call Palmerston home celebrate the blue skies and sunny days with mornings at the Coolalinga markets, BBQs and bike rides, and family outings to the city waterpark.

The Wet

From November through to April, Palmerston’s weather is characterised by high humidity, monsoonal rain and spectacular lightning storms.

Palmerston is home to over 35,000 residents and attracts many young families, Defence personnel, and locals chasing more space than city living can offer. This mix results in a friendly, family-oriented and community-minded culture.

Palmerston’s suburban landscape varies from modern housing estates through to expansive rural properties. Homes are typically designed to celebrate the outdoors including large entertaining areas, tropical gardens and swimming pools. Housing estates are designed around parks, recreation areas, local schools and shops.

Palmerston is currently undergoing significant infrastructure development. Recently completed projects include the Gateway Shopping Centre, a new outdoor social hub in the city centre, and the Palmerston Regional Hospital.

Darwin CBD is only a 15 minute drive away and many residents make the short commute daily. Many iconic national parks and conservation areas can also be found on the outskirts of town including Howard Springs, Berry Springs and Litchfield National Park.
